Tenochtitlán – die Hauptstadt der Azteken

Dort, wo sich heutzutage die große Stadt Mexico City (zu Deutsch: Mexiko-Stadt) befindet, existierte schon vor vielen Jahrhunderten eine imposante Weltmetropole: Tenochtitlán, ddie Hauptstadt der indianischen Hochkultur der sogenannten Azteken. Dieser Artikel soll einen übersichtlichen und kompakten Einblick in den Mythos der sagenumwobenen Stadt dieser damaligen Hochkultur in Mittelamerika geben und darüber hinaus einen Anreiz für den Leser bieten, sich eingehender mit der Geschichte der Stadt sowie mit ihren damaligen Bewohnern – den Méxica – auseinanderzusetzen.

We’re getting into the year 1963 in America. Precisely, we fix our attention on August 28^th. On this day a march, or rather a huge demonstration for jobs and freedom took place in Washington, D.C.. With an estimated 250,000 demonstrators, “it was the largest political demonstration ever seen in the nation’s capital”[1]. This demonstration was organized principally by a coalition of several civil rights organizations. The “Big Six” organizers were A. Philip Randolph, of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, James Farmer, of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE); Martin Luther King, Jr., of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC); John Lewis, of the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC); Roy Wilkins, of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); and Whitney Young, Jr., of the National Urban League.

The encounters of European and Native peoples before 1700 in Canada

The European discovery of America was not a discovery of an empty land. For thousands of years the Native Americans have been living there, in the so called “new land”. Thus, the Europeans inevitably came in touch with the native peoples of America when discovering and exploring the land and also during the time of settlement. Before 1700 there were many different encounters between the Europeans and the native peoples of America: peaceful and non-peaceful contacts, trade relations and fights, alliances as well as kidnapping. The first written down contact between Europeans and Native Americans is the myth of the Vikings, also known as the Medieval Norse. Later the first European explorers of North America Jacques Cartier, Martin Frobisher, Samuel de Champlain met the Natives. The life of the Native Americans changed radically after the Europeans had come over. It changed not only because of struggles with the newcomers and the new trading opportunities but also due to new diseases and the different religion that came over. Natives started questioning their old way of life, their traditions and religion.

Es wird angenommen, dass noch bevor Kolumbus Amerika entdeckte, europäische Einwanderer nach Amerika übergesiedelt sind. Es gibt verschiedene Ansätze, um die Ursprünge der Ureinwohner Amerikas zu erklären, die sich jedoch nicht mit vollkommener Sicherheit bestätigen lassen. Manche erwähnen dabei die Wikinger, oder sprechen von einer epischen Wanderung der Europäer über Alaska und wiederum andere behaupten die Völker Amerikas seien über Südostasien nach Südamerika eingewandert.
